AUSTIN, TX - ACTS Recovery Homes has changed its name to ACTS Collinfield Sober Living Home. The new name spells out plainly what the organization does. Nothing else about it is changing: same owner, same staff, same house, same standards.

The reasoning behind the change is simple. "ACTS Recovery Homes" could mean a lot of things to a lot of people. A sober living home is a specific thing, and that is what this has always been. The old name made people guess. The new one doesn't.
"Our name should tell people exactly what we do and who we're here for," said Mike Archer, who owns the home. "For years we've given people a safe place to hold onto their recovery. Now the name says that out loud."
That clarity is not a small thing for the people who come looking. Most of them find the home online, often on a rough day, sometimes with a worried family member doing the searching. When they type in what they need, a name that says "sober living home" is a lot easier to trust than one they have to decode. Archer said too many people give up during that search, and a clearer name is one less reason to.
For anyone unfamiliar with the term, sober living sits between finishing a treatment program and living completely on one's own. It is meant for people who have already done the hard early work of getting sober and are ready for more freedom, but who still do better with structure and other people around who understand what they are going through. Residents keep jobs, stick to a schedule, stay active in their own recovery, and answer to their housemates. There is nothing dramatic about it. The steadiness is the point.
None of that changes with the new name. The house rules stay. The drug- and alcohol-free policy stays. The relationships with local treatment providers and case managers stay. Over the coming months, the home will update its sign, its website, and its printed materials to match the name it is using now.
"This isn't a new direction," Archer added. "It's just a more honest label for the direction we've been going the whole time. People deserve to know what they're walking into, and now they do."
ACTS Collinfield Sober Living Home has held to the same basic idea since it opened: keep the environment clean and safe, expect people to show up for each other, and give them room to rebuild a normal life at their own pace. The name change is a way of saying that more clearly, not a break from it.
